Forest Bathing and Art
A truly mindful relationship. Even one of my trees made some art this week!
I’m excited to offer those of you in the Long Island area an experience that combines forest bathing and art. Details in the photo:

In fact, the mindfulness of forest bathing before any art project is fundamental to any artist, would-be artist, or someone who just likes to play with paint, pencils or other mediums.
Forest bathing supports how we notice something: a leaf, a mushroom, water or sky. In fact, we might change our minds about what we draw, and how we draw it after spending some time with nature, noticing the tiny worlds within worlds and what’s in motion around us.
To notice this leaf is to touch it, watch it move in the breeze, maybe even smell its surface. A leaf is never just a leaf.
Here’s one that I’m eager to draw and see what shows up. The eye of this tree where the bark has come off (part of the tree’s character) creates a beautiful mirror image. And, that touch of green lichen is irresistable!
This week, I tried an experiment with one of the trees in my backyard. I gently attached a couple of washable markers on long strings and placed a piece of white paper beneath them. I made sure that they touched, adjusting them a few times just to be sure. I waited for the breeze to move the branch, and guess what? My tree was painting!

While we won’t be inviting the trees to make art, you’ll come away with a deeper connection to the living world around you, you’ll meet some nature loving, creative people, and have some fun.
With love, light and awe,
Linda
